Got kids who can't sit still? We'd love them to try Hopadoo. Here's everything you need to set it up, film it and share it.
What it is
Hopadoo is a free game for two kids aged 5 to 12. They stand side by side in front of a laptop, tablet or phone and race each other with their whole bodies: jumping hurdles, stepping left and right to dodge crates, grabbing coins. The runners on screen copy every move. Rounds last 60 seconds.
The camera video is processed on the device and never uploaded. There are no ads, no accounts and nothing to install.
Set up in two minutes
- A laptop, tablet or phone with a camera. Prop a tablet or phone up sideways, on a shelf or against a few books.
- Put it on a table or TV stand, open hopadoo.com, press Play and allow the camera.
- Push the coffee table back. You need about 3 by 3 metres. The kids stand 2 to 3 metres from the screen, side by side. The kid on the left runs the left track.
- Play in a bright room, so the camera can see them clearly.
Filming it
- Film from behind the kids, a little to one side, with the screen in shot. You see them jump and the runners jump with them. It also keeps their faces out of the video, if you'd rather.
- Turn the sound up. The countdown and the finish are half the fun.
- Keep filming after the round. The "one more go!" at the end is usually the best bit.
What we ask
- Say what you honestly think. You never have to post, and it never has to be positive.
- Mark it as an ad ("#ad" or your platform's paid-partnership label) if we gave you anything: a free unlock, a code or a fee.
- Talk to the grown-ups. Please don't tell kids to ask their parents for it.
- It's a game, not a workout. Please don't call it exercise or fitness, or make health claims.
- Showing the kids is your call. We'll only reshare a video with the kids' faces in it if you say that's OK.
Facts you can use
- Free to play, with no ads, no accounts and nothing to install.
- One or two players side by side, ages 5 to 12, on a laptop, tablet or phone.
- No-jumping mode uses raised hands instead, for flats with neighbours downstairs. There's also Sum Run, a free maths game where kids step into the lane with the right answer, and Word Pop, a free spelling game where they jump to pop the right letter into the word.
- No video, photos or body data leave the device.
- The Family Unlock adds our extra games. It's one payment, on up to 5 devices, with no subscription and a 30-day refund. See pricing.
