Brain breaks kids play on their feet
Hopadoo is a set of free games kids play by moving in front of a laptop, tablet or phone. They jump, side-step and reach to play, so a short break gets them out of their seats. No logins, no ads, nothing to install.
Games for a quick break
Rounds are short, so a break stays a break.
- Hopadoo: a jungle race. Jump the hurdles, step left and right to dodge the crates, grab the coins.
- Sum Run: a sum comes up on the sign, and each kid runs into the lane with the right answer. Adding and taking away up to 10.
- Word Pop: a picture word is missing a letter. Stand under the right letter and jump to pop it in.
- Monkey Mirror: the monkey strikes a pose. Copy it like a mirror and hold it, but don't copy the parrot!
- Sneak: tiptoe up to a sleeping tiger together, and when it peeks, freeze or hide as a tree or a rock. Part of the optional Family Unlock.
- Ten Jar: when a firefly glows above you, jump with your hands up to catch it for the jar. Part of the Family Unlock too.
In the classroom
Hopadoo plays one or two kids at a time, side by side, so it fits best as:
- a station in a rotation, or a warm-up station in PE;
- indoor recess on a rainy day;
- a break for a pair who finished early.
Connect the laptop to the classroom screen and the rest of the class can watch the runners race.
At home
Between homework pages, after school, or when it's raining again: push the coffee table back and let them race. Siblings play side by side, and one kid can play alone.
Setting up takes two minutes
- A laptop, tablet or phone with a camera. Prop a tablet or phone up sideways, on a shelf or against a few books.
- Put it at about chest height, camera facing the room: a laptop on a table or TV stand, or a tablet or phone propped up sideways. A laptop plugged into the TV makes the runners easy to see.
- Step back 2 to 3 metres: Player 1 on the left, Player 2 on the right, head to toe in view.
- Hands up to join, and play.
Nothing leaves your device
There are no accounts or logins, no ads and no tracking. The camera video is processed on the device and never uploaded, so no video, photos or body data leave it.
